ABS/VDC System Failure

Ive recently purchased a 51 plate 2.0 lusso 147 only four days ago and the ABS/VDC failure has appeared. This fault has come on once whilst driving and a second time whilst starting up. Can anybody inform me of whether they have had a similar problem and how its fixed and more importantly how much the dealers charge to fix the problem

Thanks

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

It may be something as simple as a bad connection at a wheel speed sensor which it usually is.

It needs diagnosed at a specialist with Examiner software or a dealer though. About £40.00 for the diagnosis.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

Might be worth checking the battery. Kept getting random vcd failure and indicator light failure warnings that have not appeared since I replaced the battery.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

We had this problem repeatedly when our 147 was new, apparently it is very common and usually associated with the brake light switch, I don't know if it was replaced or adjusted but it has never re-failed in the last 3 1/2 years. I was told that it is due to the fact it has two contacts within it and if they are not perfectly syncronised a 'mismatch' error is generated and the system spits it's dummy out.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

Is this a problem which is easily fixed?

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

I would not have thought it was overly difficult (though Vardey's made a meal out of everything they ever did, good ridance!) but as it was done under warranty I have no idea of the labour / parts costs, sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

This error often appears with the cold and damp weather affecting a wheel sensor. The error often appears quickly and then goes off again, or will go off with the first hard application of the brakes. It's up to you whether you want the hassle of trying to trace what's causing it.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

My one was caused by the steering wheel sensor cable being pulled too tight in the cowling. Touch wood - fixed.

Mine always happened on cold damp mornings too. It took them ages to find it though but if you have the same get them to keep fixing it until they find it. You should only pay once if the problem arises again.

i had this problem previously and it was attributed to a weak and about dead battery. Once the battery was replaced, the error message also went with it . You might want to get your car to the dealer to have the battery checked.

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

Very common fault....

Dealers can't seem to find it, changing wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensors, re-calibrating things, works for a bit... then.... BEEEEEP!

My Ricko 147 model even comes with a sticker on the dashboard...

"VDC Failure Warning"

-Just kidding [obviously]

Re: ABS/VDC System Failure

In my car it happens randomly and not very often. All I need to do is stop the car, turn it off, turn it on again and the warning is gone. the car is due to have it´s 35,000 kms service in 2 weeks so I will have it checked. The problem tends to happen when is cold and damp. Thank goodness the rainy season here in Guatemala is over.
